Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Announces Port Harcourt Refinery Completion Expected in Second Quarter of 2023

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has announced that the Port Harcourt refinery is close to completion and is expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2023. This was revealed during a seminar held by Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday, March 22, with the Minister’s media aide, Horatius Egua, in attendance.

Sylva noted that the issues facing the oil and gas industry are due to years of neglect from past administrations. He stated that the President’s order to end oil theft has started to show positive results, with production increasing from 900,000 barrels per day to 1.5-1.6 million barrels per day. Additionally, the Minister mentioned that the government has invested in infrastructure in the sector and that the Port Harcourt refinery is currently at 65-70 percent completion. He expressed his hope that something will come out of the refinery by the end of the second quarter of the year.
