Nigeria's 2023 Elections: Lai Mohammed Promises Credible and Transparent Polls

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, declared that the 2023 elections will be the most transparent and credible ever held in Nigeria. On Saturday, March 18, while speaking to reporters after casting his ballot in the Governorship and State Assemblies elections in Oro, near Ilorin Kwara, he expressed his confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He credited the success of the February 25 and March 18 elections to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which he said has helped to tackle multiple accreditations, voting, and rigging. Mohammed also noted that the introduction of BVAS has made it impossible for people to vote twice, as their biometric and facial data are captured. He added that the issues being raised about INEC’s credibility are meant to distract people, and that some media outlets have taken positions for certain candidates, which has made their analysis unreliable.
