Next week, Chinese President Xi Jinping will be visiting Russia at the invitation of Vladimir Putin. The two leaders will be discussing the deepening of their relationship and strategic cooperation. They will also be signing important bilateral documents. This visit is a show of support for Putin and a demonstration of the strength of the Russian-Chinese ties. China has long declared a ‘no-limits’ friendship with Russia and has condemned western sanctions and accused NATO and the United States of provoking Russia. Beijing has also called for dialogue and respect for all countries’ territorial sovereignty in a 12-point position paper on the war published last month. China’s foreign minister urged Kyiv and Moscow to restart peace talks ‘as soon as possible’, while Kyiv said the call also raised the importance of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
