SERAP Calls on INEC to Investigate Election Violence or Face Legal Action

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to appoint an independent counsel to investigate any allegations of electoral offences and violence, including bribery, during the recently concluded general elections. In a letter signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the group requested that INEC take immediate steps to implement the recommended measures within seven days. If no response is received, SERAP will consider taking legal action in the public interest.

The 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections were held on February 25, while the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections were held on March 18. Sen. Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the Presidential election, and 26 Governors-elect have been announced by INEC who will be presented their Certificate of Return later this month.
